Organizing on Twenty Peaks means creating and running your own community and the events inside it. This page explains what that involves, what you can set up yourself, and what needs our help.
What an organizer is
An organizer is a participant or third party who creates and operates a Community in order to organize Events. An organizer can be Twenty Peaks itself or an independent third party.
Community vs. Event
These two are easy to mix up, so it's worth being precise:
- A Community is the space you create to host events and publish routes. It's your home on the platform — a name, a description, branding, and a country.
- An Event is a single dated instance that lives inside a Community. A Community can host many events over time.
Think of the Community as the venue and the events as the things that happen there.
What you can create yourself
From Explore you can create two things without any special permissions:
- Meetups — press Create meetup and follow the flow. A meetup is a social gathering: it isn't scored or ranked.
- Routes — press Create route to add a route to a community, for cycling or running.
Other kinds of event — anything scored, ranked or paid for — can't be created from that button. If you want to run one, get in touch with the Twenty Peaks team and we'll set it up with you.
Adding routes to an event
You don't have to create every route from scratch. When you set up an event you can choose from routes already on the platform, and you can upload a GPX track when the route you need doesn't exist yet. See Add routes (GPX).
Your responsibilities
For third-party events, the organizer is solely responsible for the event. That includes the content and its accuracy, the routes, participant safety, scheduling, conduct, cancellation, and fulfillment of anything you sell. Twenty Peaks acts as a technology platform and intermediary — it provides the tools, but the event itself is yours to run.
Registration payments and invoicing for paid events are handled through Twenty Peaks. If you need to cancel an event or sort out a refund, contact us and we'll work through it with you.
Participant data
When you organize, you may receive personal information about the participants who register — for example, their names and order details. Use that information only to operate your event, and handle it lawfully in line with the Privacy Policy.
