Help CenterGetting Started › Event types explained

A few core concepts cover almost everything you'll see on Twenty Peaks. Once you know these words, the rest of the platform is easy to navigate.

Event / Edition

An event (also called an edition — the two words are used interchangeably) is a single, time-bound instance that everything else hangs off. It has a start and end date, a set of official routes, and the people taking part. When you register, you register for an event.

Meetup

A meetup is a social, community gathering — a chance to ride or run together. It isn't a performance event and isn't scored or ranked.

Community

A community is an entity that owns and runs its own events and routes.

The Challenge (a style of event, not a type)

A Challenge — like the flagship 20-Peaks Challenge — is a style of event, not a separate kind of event. When people talk about "the Challenge," they mean an event set up that way: complete a set number of passes within the season. See The 20-Peaks Challenge.

Challenge events run in the Classic event format — every route counts, each at your best time. See Event format: Classic.
